Speed Post 2: MEMES

I use to not like MEMES too much but I've grown to love them! I even made this one myself! Anyone can do it! This is from a show I love called, "Rules of Engagement". I love Patrick Warburton's character.

NINE GATES: My journey to making a graphic novel

Greetings! Never mind that last post, I was ranting like a mad man! Recently I promised you in depth interviews and videos about my newest book Short Stories of a Man Named Frankie Dingle: Adventures of Absurdity. Well you're still going to have to wait for that! Ha! It seems I've sold but one copy so far (pathetic) seemingly because a lot of people don't understand that its only available in digital format. So I will have to adjust my marketing strategies and get that rolling.

I wanted to talk a little bit about my other current project, Nine Gates  my graphic novel! I'm in the prelims right now with it and am unavailable to scan in and post any progress pictures unfortunately but I am coming along. The script for the first chapter was finished quite sometime ago and now I have finished most of the character designs, and page 1 pencils and the cover pencils as well. Currently starting on page 2, of which I have the prelim pencils done so far. Everything with time and effort.

I'm looking to hopefully get this published through an actual big name publisher (IDW; DARK HORSE, IMAGE or SLAVE LABOR GRAPHICS) so as not to have so much pressure on myself to sell it. All of their submission guidelines are luckily all the same pretty much: Cover Letter, Whole Story Synopsis, Character Breakdowns, and 5 penciled, inked and lettered pages. Five is the minimum but its pretty much what I'm shooting for right now.

The cover letter, synopsis, character breakdowns and pencils part is easy for me and somewhat the inking. I run into a huge problem with the lettering part however. Like what do I do for that part? So that is really going to be quite a doosy for me. I'll figure something out I'm hoping.

I picture this series in black and white (basically like a manga graphic novel) interiors with of course full color covers and wraps and what not. It's sort of a cross between; Avatar/Korra; Ral Grad, and Lord of the Rings. Sort of. The rest of it is something different that I've never come across myself out there in the comic world. I'll post the synopsis and stuff soon and hopefully some pictures. Thanks.

I Guess I'll Write a New Post

Hey ya bastards! What's up? Been like no time at al since no one reads or comments or shares this blog. Exciting new I just totally shit my pants! It was awesome and thanks for caring, to tell the truth it was warm an soggy but didn't drip down my legs to be honest thank goodness.
Just recently watched episode three hundred of Key and Peele on Comedy Central's website and it was brilliant stuff!!! Basically an omnibus of their best sketches, totally falling asleep right now (too much wine) but I digress. They're brilliant comedic, sketch actors! Seriously they were awesome! Totally can't wait for the premiere episode of Season 3 on September eighteenth! That's it, oh yeah I finally finished the first page to my original graphic novel pencil-wise tonight! Pumped! Looking to submit to a bunch of companies, will share once I become rich enough to own an all in one printer that handles 11 x 17 size paper. Cheers and Fuck off! Love you guys!

I Seek to Revolutionize

Let me make one thing clear about my fore into comics, film, internet and writing. I seek to revolutionize. Like those heroes before me, Bryan Lee O'Malley; Gerard Way, Brian K. Vaughn, Scott Snyder, Steve Niles and many others I want to change things. Like Christian Bale; Marlon Brando, Will Ferrell, Michael Cera and Clark Duke, Dave Chapelle. So many others and honestly to many for me to remember at this time, I want to move things to a new style a new feel a-a-a-new something!

Not that things are bad as they are you know? We've got great things going, DC's The New 52; Marvel's approach to bringing back old storylines/characters, Image's revolutionary creator owned series, Steve Niles push for as many indie projects as he can possibly handle. Actors like Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffallo and again Will Ferrell stepping out of their comfort zones to give us amazing character realizations on the big screen. Heck you know what, obviously Christian Bale was one of the best 'Batman' realizations of the last two centuries but maybe even Ben Afleck can give us some greatness to latch onto in his interpretation. Henry Cavil (a British native) after all gave us one of the best 'Superman'/'Clark Kent' interpretations I've ever seen (in my opinion) seriously. Yes George Reeves was good and Christopher Reeves was good (for a while) but now these types of transmedia stories and characters are being taken seriously enough for them to be brought to full realization in today's world!

I want to be a part of this so bad! I'm just one indie creator/actor from a small town in central, central New York after all! Like think of a small pebble in a rock quarry and that's pretty much central New York. You know though half of the heroes we all look up to have come form small unknown places for years and look at them! I have a belief in myself and I have those who support me (my great wife; parents and close friends) but its hard to actually get a feel that my general community and family and so called "friends" support me as well. And I'm not saying that because they didn't purchase my latest indie creation, a sort of sequel to my first book: Short Stories of a Man Named Frankie Dingle: Adventures of Absurdity (shameless plug in/link): http://www.amazon.com/Short-Stories-Frankie-Dingle-ebook/dp/B00EP406Q0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1377991263&sr=8-1&keywords=short+stories+of+a+man+named+frankie+dingle%3A+adventures+of+absurdity.

I'm saying that because I sent personal email/FaceBook messages to them and I have to tell you that only 1 out of so many actually responded. I was shocked and a little hurt. I started letting the dark thoughts slip in more and more and I realize this sounds a little bit like the ranting of a 'torchered soul of an artist' sensitive crap. But you know what, I am that sensitive to be honest, despite how I may seem. Again though this is just a tangent I'm going on and I am a bit inebriated at the time of writing this so ignore the silly banter that you can.

All I'm saying is that everyone needs to jump aboard the revolution! Change the media (news, tv, comics, books, internet), the way you think, the way you believe, the way you show love and support! Show the world something, make a fricken mark on this ginormous spectrum we have before us! Don't just let the world forget about you! You have something to say, I guarantee it!

Expectations

Expectations are all about the perceived limitations that others put in your head. Life is about exceeding those that others have made and those that you have made for yourself. You have to be able to rise to and above the occasion.

This is so true, yet how am I living up to this? I'm currently sitting on my couch writing this blog that no one reads and not living up to my potential. My wife however has just come back from a run of three miles which she has been training for sometime to do. A record time I might add as well, she's so inspirational to me. She's training to run a race in September and in doing so she wants to be able to run even more than the race itself so that when it comes to running it, it'll be a breeze.

I have about a million projects floating in my head and started as I type. Top on deck are another spec script; thumbnails and possible layouts for my graphic novel, finishing typing and uploading a short story book to kindledirect, possible cover/sequential art for my portfolio, and trying desperately to find an agent. I'm also thinking of heading back into doing some stand-up again, I've been hitting a pretty good joke strive. The thing is I have all these projects started or finished half way through but have yet to complete any of them. Okay so that's not fair, I do have one spec script, a pilot script and a short comic book spec script finished. So I have finished some things. But I'm trying to push myself beyond my and others expectations.

Everyone starts from different places and our perspectives are always skewed but I've been thinking a lot about where it is I live and my dreams and how tough it is to accomplish them. I keep thinking that if I had been born in the cities where my careers are most popular and readily available with resources it might be simpler. But then I do think of others who have actually come from my same town and made it into their show biz careers. Okay so I only have one example of that in my friend Rich Talarico. Still, he came from my town and grew up in central New York and worked hard and made it out of here and as a writer/performer out in L.A.

His most famous quote/advice to me is always, "Do the work on whatever level you can, right now." I have no clue what that means really, I mean I sort of do. I guess in fact that is what I'm doing but without any feedback from people in my field and any sort of critique and interaction with players in the biz it just seems like a nice little hobby sometimes. Interactions are important in any setting but when dealing with your career choice or life decisions its even more important especially with the right people. But how do you get to interact with the right people? That's where I am.
